About Peter Adams

Peter has been in private practice as a massage therapist since 1988. Over more than three decades, he has worked with elite athletes, people recovering from injuries, and clients seeking to improve their overall health and well-being.

During the first seven years of his career, Peter had the privilege of working with the Phoenix Track Club, treating Olympic gold medalists, an Olympic silver medalist, and a world-record holder. Later, he also worked with an IBF super-bantamweight boxing champion. These experiences developed his appreciation for the relationship between movement, injury, training, recovery and overall health.

Experience with Elite Athletes

Peter has always believed that massage therapy can play an important role within a broader approach to health care. Early in his career, he worked with Dr. Ron Cridland, M.D., at the Health Promotion Clinic. In the 1980s, Dr. Cridland promoted the idea that chronic stress and poor nutrition could contribute significantly to ill health. His approach emphasized managing stress, eating well and incorporating periods of fasting, with a strong focus on prevention and personal responsibility for maintaining good health. This philosophy had a lasting influence on Peter, and he continues to practise these principles in his own life.

Peter subsequently worked in chiropractic offices and a physiotherapy clinic, helping clients rehabilitate from a wide range of injuries. He developed particular expertise in whiplash and motor-vehicle injuries.

At the Richmond Hill Rehabilitation Centre, working with Bruce Makos, D.C., Peter provided massage therapy as part of the rehabilitation process and also worked as a Designated Assessment Centre (DAC) assessor, reviewing cases where insurance companies had denied funding for massage therapy treatment.

A Broader Approach to Health

Peter holds a College Diploma in Traditional Chinese Medicine and is a Certified Teacher of the Alexander Technique, an approach focused on posture, movement, coordination and body awareness.

A lifelong learner, Peter is currently continuing his education as a mature student at the University of Toronto, working part-time toward an English Specialist Degree.

Continuing Education

Outside the clinic, Peter is a martial artist, avid paddle boarder and yoga enthusiast. His lifelong involvement in movement and physical activity continues to inform his understanding of the body and the importance of maintaining strength, mobility and balance throughout life.

Peter is the proud father of five children and six grandchildren — and counting, and the proud human companion of his beloved dog, Abby.
